the Light

I’m really sick of living with my family. Their values and beliefs are so different to mine that it’s just not worth the trouble of trying to get along. I often consider suicide but probably won’t because one thought keeps me going: the knowledge that in three years time I will be able to do something positive with my life – something much more worthwhile than this lot. I will follow the Light, and hope to be as close to Xyrael as possible (the character in my book) throughout. And then I’ll go and see them all, and see how they turned out. Millionaires? Some may be. High-class business wo/men? Probably not. Capitalist, commercialist slaves? Yep.

I don’t think that my efforts to change them are going to work, because so far they are all continuing in their ways. But that’s up to them, and since you can’t choose your relatives and I agree with the maxim that it’s one’s choices and not abilities that define who they are I don’t really mind and I’m not going to be ashamed of being related to them, for that is totally illogical. I’m glad I have the online community and those I know from 3rror and the IBDof amougst others to be able to talk to because the advice given on this blog can be invaluable.

*sigh*

I’m glad I’ve written about this. What do you think?

Coolio New Computer & New Blog

Mega w00tcore! This evening has been so much fun! This new computer we bought from eBuyer is so amazing, here are the spec: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=95743
Now partitioning has begun and Linux has been installing steadily for a few hours; I selected the maximum number of packages xD. We also have a new PCMCIA card for the laptop and several ethernet cables to try and expand the SFNet home network that I have running, but have found that there is still too much interference, possible from a suspicious network running on the street called “oliver road”. Hmm.

I’ve also started a SilentFlame company blog at http://blog.silentflame.com/, where this blog used to be located. This is because I want to be able to look back on the progress of SilentFlame as it goes on and this is the ideal way to do this.

Sorry for the lack of posting lately =(

The Day of the Books

Yay, books! We’re at our grandparents house at the moment, and this morning we went out for a walk along the canal. Along the way we stopped off in Carnforth, and went in the cafĂ©, as is compulsory with Granje & Grandad. Grandad and me then went into an amazing second-hand bookshop (well, 2nd hand upstairs anyway), of a first and second floor, that is advertised as containing over one-hundred thousand books! It was very nice inside with lots of little rooms and corridors stuffed full of books in every available place. However, the fantasy section was a dissapointment – we had to ask to find it because there was a whole section of the place that we had totally missed out, and when we did found only two TSR DnD novels, and both Dragonlance, which I’m not interested in. This was a shame because I was looking for some Forgotten Realms books because I thought that that would be the place to fine them; obviously not.

Thisafternoon while Annie & Granje did homework and baking we went to Lancaster University’s library. I couldn’t believe the trust given to visitors – one can just walk straight in with no cards or checks what so ever. At my mother’s university library, you need an ID card to get through the front door, which is an interesting comparison. Although the campus, which was basically a self-contained town (more on that later) was not very nice on the outside, the interior of the library was well-lit and furnished with a brilliant selection. My grandfather went off to religion and philosophy, while I moved to computing where I began to search several books on BASIC to find programming exercises to practice on my calculator.

My grandfather commented on the fact that the university hadn’t done much for the city because it was so remote and out of touch with what was going on. Student accomodation was being thrown up all over the place, and as such many of the learners don’t have to leave the campus at all. This means that it isn’t really Lancaster University at all, and I agree that this is a serious disadvantage that can’t really be resolved at this stage. The university only has one campus, by the way, and we drove round it before leaving to discover the sheer size!

I’m having quite a bit of trouble with this programming. I’m trying to produce prime numbers in the simplest code possible, using this pseudoformula; can you help?

If int(I/L1(J))*L1(J) Then Prime

Brilliant New Flash Drive

A

Lots of lovely pictures today. That’s my new flash drive, with the port extended and retracted. It’s very nice, and I hope will be useful, for my other broke and I lost some stuff – but not everything for I had taken a backup not long before. Ah, I remember when I got my first, years ago (being a computer geek), of 32MB. You can also see my bedroom in these pictures, which I think is quite tidy compared to the one shown on the blog of MAtt (raptor_bob). Those piles of books are in my bedside cabinet, waiting to be read. I really need to get churning through them for it is getting out of hand – as usual. So, do you like my room, from what you can see of it? Thoughts, please. Heh, my bed has just been washed, so it’d be nice to show a pic of that, but the post won’t look very nice then. Ah well, another day.

I’ve been redesigning Heather’s site today: take a look. The doing so has taught me several things about CSS which I may apply to try and fix xyrael.net’s failing design. I’m talking about cross-browser compatability, and the problems that I have been having with the right-hand bar, you realise. The only problems with Heather’s design right now are a few little performance issues, and the fact that the icons try and grab those from Apache, which isn’t working – see http://dev.heathergladney.org/template.html to see what I mean. Sigh.

Thought of more stuff to write earlier, but have forgotten. Toodles.
